Run or die. Perhaps both

Being 34ish and clearly out of shape can have serious side-effects when it comes to being a competitive runner. Having run over 43 miles in 3+ weeks - I feel accomplished and stronger than ever. At the same time, I have a certain pain radiating from the back of my heel and up my calf that feels like my foot is being sheared clear off.

Nevertheless, I am pleased with my progress. I am behind my competitor, but i feel confident I can catch him. Whether it be by foot or outright cheating.

Running with a devil

Ok. Not sure I'm exactly Forest Gump, but I did purchase a Nike+. Now I feel I must justify the purchase by actually running. For me running is the only way I can actually lose weight. Seeing I am a distant third (or so) in our Largest Reducer competition - I need to do something drastic. Here's to not having a heart attack before May 1!

My competitive side said I needed further motivation - so I enlisted copywriting genius and fellow large guy mattbunkdotcom. Unfortunately he is my primary competition for the largest reducer - so this is clearly a concession. Nevertheless, I run on. Filled with the personal satisfaction that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Also filled with something us joggers call "Runner's High" - also known as phlegm.

See phat guy run here...

Truth and cholesterol

I'm sure the Vytorin debacle will stem government inquiries and, oh yes, lawsuits - but honestly, when is it the FDA's fault for approving these drugs or the doctors' fault for prescribing. Marketers are not doctors, researchers or even ombudsmen. At some point we need to realize in the race to market the latest pill - perhaps pills aren't the answer at all. No one truly understands the vast and unique affect of genetics on how each body responds to illness. Oncologists are just now understanding the efficacy of a truly individualized approach to cancer treatment. We should be safe to assume our hearts react much the same way. And the efforts to find the magic pill may be just as illusive as finding a magic bullet.

Being Thinned - Largest Reducer update

Two weeks in. Nearly 11 pounds off. I'd say it's a good start. Although a stomach virus or parasite might grease the skids a bit. I feel like I'm getting there - although there is a long way to go. I'm currently chasing someone who has already lost twice my amount.

But...it's a marathon, not a sprint. Hopefully, I'll be the turtle with the trophy at the end.
